Town Office & Public Works will be closed on December 24 & 25 and January 1.

Stoughton Library, along with most of the Southeast Regional Libraries will be closed from Sunday, December 23 through Tuesday, January 1.  Estevan & Weyburn libraries will be open December 27 – 29 for all patrons use.  The library is open 24/7 throughout the holiday season electronically through:
SILS app for requesting materials, renewals and monitoring your account,
Libby app for downloading e-books and e-audiobooks,
Hoopla app for downloading movies, music, audiobooks and more,
Flipster and Press Reader apps for magazines and newspapers, and
our online databases such as Tumblebooks for animated storybooks for kids.

Residents are asked to trim bushes along sidewalks, streets and alleys to ensure easy snow removal.  Any bushes or hedges that are overgrown may be hit by equipment and the Town assumes no responsibility for damages.

This year’s dinner theatre production is Ken Ludwig’s “The Fox on the Fairway” and it is bound to be a huge hit!!  Tickets are still available for the evening of December 7.  Supper that night is chicken, cabbage rolls, mashed potatoes, salads and dessert and tickets are only $40! The Town of Stoughton invites applications for the position of Landfill Attendant.  Duties include, but are not limited to, open and closing of landfill during designated hours, direct patrons where items should be placed, determine and collect payments and complete record keeping as required.  Applicants should submit a resume by December 3, 2018 to the Town Office.

DUTCH ELM DISEASE CONTROL PROGRAM

There have been 300 Elm Trees identified throughout town that require treatment.  Spraying for Elm beetles will occur on AUGUST 17th & 18th.
Children and pets should not have direct contact with the chemical for 24 hours.  A chemical information sheet is available at the office.

STOUGHTON DAZE – JULY 6-8  A weekend of entertainment for the whole family.  Events include a golf tournament, pancake breakfast, parade, magician, balloon twisting, kids games, softball, mud bogs, volleyball, horse show, band, show and shine and color run fundraiser.  A new feature this year will be a Trade Show. 

Congratulations to the 2018 Graduates!  Town Council wishes you success on your future endeavors.  The Grad ceremony will be held on June 29 at 7pm at the school gym.

The pathway from Richardson Avenue to Newhope Lodge is for bikes and pedestrians only.  Motorized bikes and ATV’s are not to be on that path.

DID YOU KNOW…  House numbers are mandatory.  Please ensure your house number is on display and visible from the street.  This ensures emergency crews can locate your property in an emergency.  The Bylaw Officer will be checking this in the coming weeks.

A Water Conservation Policy has been put into effect as a precautionary measure.

Effective June 1st you will no longer be able to get water from the tap at the town shop.  Water is available at the pump house or for a smaller amount at any of the local grocery stores.

-Stoughton Public Library 2nd Annual BBQ will be June 13 from 4 – 7.  $5/meal, live music, silent auctions and chinese auction items.  All funds raised will go to local programming.
-Stoughton Credit Union Welcome to Summer BBQ will be June 14 from 11 – 1.  Lunch is by donation and all funds raised will go to the Stoughton Soccer Club.

Stoughton Public Library is looking to hire for our Summer Reading Program!  We are looking for a motivated individual to come run our summer reading program.  The successful candidate will be responsible for facilitating and organizing 6 dates (in July and August) approximately 2 hours each, filled with crafts and projects that coincide with our feature reading theme.  Dates and times are flexible and up to the organizers schedule.  For more information please contact Laura at 306-457-2484 or drop by the library.  Application deadline is May 30, 2018.

Congratulations to Tom Sangster!  He received a Honorary Service Award at the 2018 SUMA conference for 24 years of service on council. 

There has been a change to our custom sewer calls policy.  The new policy states that Custom Sewer Jobs be completed on Monday to Friday from 1-3pm when a work order has been completed and that no more than two hours be allotted for a custom call after which time the customer will be advised to contact a licensed plumbing contractor.  Custom sewer calls will not be completed in the evenings or on weekends, please contact a plumber to have work done during those hours.

The used oil container will be removed from the landfill.  Residents are able to dispose of used oil at The Oil Drop Shop during regular business hours.

Dutch Elm Disease:  Infected tree removal has been completed for this year, but treatment and prevention of Dutch Elm Disease will be ongoing.  Whisperin’ Jakes has been contracted to basal spray all remaining Elm trees in the spring and we will continue to monitor and remove diseased trees in the coming years. 
It is illegal to transport, store or buy Elm firewood as firewood is the main way the disease is spread in Saskatchewan.  Please do your part to keep our trees healthy.

Public Notice is hereby given that Council meetings for the Town of Stoughton will change from their regularly scheduled dates during the months of January and February 2018.
Regular Council Meetings will be held January 9, January 23 and February 13.
Meetings will resume the normal rotation of 1st and 3rd Tuesdays on March 6, 2018.  Please remember that any delegations or items for discussion need to be brought to the Town Office on the Friday prior to the meeting.

Stoughton Rink is open for the season!  Ensure you are purchasing your passes either at the rink or town office or paying the daily fee as it is not free to skate. 
Regular public skating times are Monday/Wednesday 3:30-5:30 & 7:30-9, Tuesday/Thursday/Friday 3:30-9, Saturday 11-3:30 & 5-9, Sunday 11-9.  Please see the rink Facebook page or posters on the rink doors for changes to schedules due to bookings.
